The photos with the flash are really great. The screen is small but it helps a lot to know what is being captured.

Holding the bottom button activates the fill light — it really makes selfies look amazing. The value for money on this thing is beyond what I ever imagined.

It has filters you can change through and the flash is really bright. My favourite mini camera so far.

What's in the box

The camera in a gift box, an 8GB memory card, a charger, a lobster clasp and a neck chain, and a short instruction card. Nothing else to buy — put the card in and shoot.

How the photos come off it

Pop the card out and put it in a reader, or connect the camera over USB. The files are ordinary JPEGs and AVI clips — no app and no account.

Battery and charging

It charges over USB-C, and a charger is in the box. A full charge is good for roughly an evening of shooting; lean hard on the flash and it will be less. Built to be topped up between nights out rather than to last a week.

Four things your phone won't do

Night shots that come back

Night shots that come back

This is the one most tiny cameras get wrong. A real flash means a dark bar, a late kitchen or the back of a taxi comes out as a photo instead of a smear. Hard, bright, slightly overexposed — the disposable-camera look, on purpose.

Selfies without your phone

Selfies without your phone

The screen folds a full 180° out of the top, so you can see yourself while you shoot. It's the one thing that usually forces you back to the phone you were trying to leave alone.

The look, before the shot

The look, before the shot

Four filters live in the camera. You choose the look first and then take the photo, which is the opposite of how a phone works — no camera roll of ten near-identical frames waiting to be edited.

It's actually on you

It's actually on you

It comes with a clasp and a neck chain, so it hangs on you rather than living in a bag you left at the table. The best camera is the one that's there.

Sharper photos are not better photos

Your phone has spent ten years getting better at one thing: making an image that looks exactly like what your eye saw. It's extraordinary, and it's the reason your camera roll is ten thousand photos you will never look at again. Nothing in there is surprising, because nothing in there was allowed to be.

This does the opposite. One fixed lens, one hard flash, four looks you pick before you shoot. You don't edit your way to a better version afterwards — you press the button and find out later. That gap, between pressing and seeing, is the entire reason people are buying cameras again.

No app, no account, no editing step.
Your phone battery stays where you need it.
Round your neck, so it's actually with you.

I bought it as a joke gift for myself and it's genuinely changed how I take photos. I'm not performing when I use it.

The ones that came back best

Sent in with the photos that made them.

Took it to a festival instead of a proper camera. The flash shots at night are the ones everyone asked me to send them.

Flipping the screen up for a group selfie is the bit that made everyone else want one.

Wore it out on a night bus and got about thirty photos I'd never have taken on my phone.

It's very cute, really small, and works very well. Both photos in the dark and in the light are fine, but the ones with the flash are really great.

It came in a box, the instructions were clear, and the camera works perfectly. Roughly 6.5 by 2.5 cm — smaller than I pictured.

Genuinely no learning curve. Charged it, hung it round my neck, forgot about it, took photos all week.

The honest answers

Are the photos actually good?

Not by phone standards, and that's the point. Stills come out soft, grainy and washed — the look people are buying these for. It records video with sound too. If you want sharp photographs your phone is already better than this will ever be; buy it because you want pictures that look like something.

Is it complicated to use?

No — owners describe the instructions as clear and the camera as working straight out of the box. Hold the power button to switch it on, press the top button to shoot, cycle the filters if you want one. The one thing worth knowing, because it isn't obvious: hold the bottom button to turn on the fill light, which is what makes selfies work.

Does it work indoors and at night?

Yes, and this is the main reason to pick it over the smaller one. The built-in flash lights a room properly, so a dark bar or a late kitchen comes back as a photo rather than a blur. It's a hard, bright flash — closer to a disposable camera than to your phone's night mode, which is exactly what most people want it for.

Does it get warm when you use it?

Yes — buyers mention it heats up fairly quickly, especially when filming rather than taking stills. It's a tiny body with nowhere to put the heat, so that's the trade for the size. It isn't uncomfortable to hold and it doesn't stop working, but if you plan to record continuously for long stretches this is not the tool.

Can I control the focus?

No. The lens is fixed, and one thing owners do notice is that it will sometimes hold focus on the background and leave a close subject soft. There's no tapping to focus and no macro mode. For anything closer than about arm's length, expect it soft — which, for what this camera is, is usually the point.

Is a memory card included?

Yes — an 8GB card comes in the box, so it shoots the moment you unwrap it. If you film a lot of video you may want a bigger one eventually; it takes any standard microSD up to 64GB.

Is it waterproof?

No. It has an open card slot, a charging port and a screen on a hinge, so keep it out of the rain and well away from pools. It'll survive being carried around all day — it won't survive a swim.

How do the filters work?

Four of them live in the camera and you cycle through before you shoot, so the look is baked into the photo rather than applied afterwards. There's no app and nothing to install — which is rather the point.

How do I get the photos onto my phone or laptop?

Take the card out and put it in a reader, or plug the camera in over USB. Photos are ordinary JPEGs and clips are AVI, so they open anywhere. No app, no account, nothing to sign up for.

How does charging work?

Over USB-C, and a charger is included. A full charge covers roughly an evening — the flash is what drains it. Any USB-C cable you already own works too.
